For Andy, art provides an escape from turmoil and an opportunity for inner calm. At times, Andy finds calm in the form of things that are solid, definite and certain. At other times it comes from not knowing, from exploring, experimenting and enjoying the uncertainty. All his pieces are contemplative: they reward detailed study and consideration of meaning and purpose.
Andy's photography is sometimes bold and graphic whilst at other times subtle and expresses a sense of calm. His images are often monochrome and always invite the viewer to find their own interpretation or meaning within them.
Andy's woodwork is either geometric and precise, or organic. Andy responds to the wood, the shapes and forms it suggests or into which it is happy to be adapted. The result is that every piece feels like it always wanted to be that shape, be it a simple, complex or dramatic form. Whether Andy's woodwork has neat sharp edges or soft curves, the form it takes and the quality of the finish makes every piece pleasing and intriguing to both the eye and to the touch.
In silver, Andy elevates mundane shapes from something that is overlooked and disregarded into something to be admired and enjoyed.
Andy will be taking part in Dorset Art Weeks from the 23rd to the 7th June 2026, together with his wife, Alison. Andy will be exhibiting photography and woodwork. More details are available on Alison Webber's Dorset Art Weeks exhibition page. (Image used with permission of Dorset Visual Arts).
