Andy's boxes are frequently ornamented with engine turned guilloché engraving to the side, top or both. This is a painstaking process in which a perfectly good box is engraved with a series of individual cuts - sometimes hundreds of them - with no certainty of quite what the finished item will look like. In addition, an error on any one of those cuts can destroy the symmetry and possibly the whole piece. The engravings provide a variety of textures and catch the light in surprising ways giving a delightful dynamics as the pieces are explored in the hand.
